One guy's experiences as he quits drinking

How times change

I was just driving past a large liquor shop and decided to pop in because they stock Seedlip non-alcoholic gin.

As I walked in it struck me how much things have changed in (nearly) 10 months. I walked in confidently without even questioning whether it was OK for me to be there by myself.

As I walked through the aisles I saw many familiar drinks but didn’t have any twinge or temptations. I ended up stocking up on some zero alcohol drinks: beer, white wines, the Seedlip Grove Gin and some specialty tonic waters.

It was a nice experience!  So tonight I might have a tonic water and Seedlip Gin to try them out. ‘Grove’ is the latest gin flavour and it’s a mix of bitter orange, lemon, manarine and ginger.  Cheers!

  1. Wow. That’s great. I can’t wait to get there myself. The Antabuse is my saving grace for now, but I hope to be able to let that go eventually. Thanks for the inspiration! 👍

    • Hey Nelson – have you already written about Antabuse? I’d be interested to read about what it’s like and how it’s working for you. Awesome that it’s helping you. I’m forever keen to learn about people’s journeys and I don’t know much about this. Obviously up to you what you blog about and what you want to share but thought I’d throw that in there! Anna x

  2. Good for you!

I’m almost at the one year mark and I absolutely LOVE how me not drinking is now the new normal. We go to the pub and my only issue is figuring out if I’m really thirsty and want a big glass of water or not so thirsty and just want a soft drink or non-alcoholic beer to slowly sip on. No one bats an eyelid anymore – Anna doesn’t drink, period. No big deal. My family and friends have all relaxed into this new (or not so new anymore!) reality and no longer worry about whether they should have alcohol around me (this doesn’t bother me, never did) – it’s just all very comfortable and chilled. Isn’t it just so nice when it gets to that point?

And WOOHOO for almost 10 months! Rocking it!
